Geographic Information

  • The Emirate of Umm Al Quwain is located in the northwest of the UAE overlooking the Arabian Gulf with an area that covers around 800 representing approximately 1% of the total UAE area.
  • The Emirate of Umm Al Quwain is a peninsula with a coastal line of 23 kilometers situated between Sharjah & Ras Al-Khimah where it is also overlooking Khor Al Bidaa.
  • Al Sinniyah Island (previously called Mallah) which is a 90 nature reserved area overlooks the peninsula of Umm Al Quwain representing a part of the Emirate where a unique green cover of plants & several types of rare birds are found & inhabitant.
  • The Climate of Umm Al Quwain is a semi-desert with high temperature & humidity in the summer varying from month to month. The weather in winter is fine with infrequent showers.
  • The terrain is sandy, flat with salt patches near the sea. Falaj Al-Mualla is a fertile area as it lies in Al-Batha valley which is well above the sea level some 52 km southeast the city of Umm Al Quwain.                                                                       
  • The population census for 2004 reflected 68,000 people (25% nationals) representing 2% from the UAE total population & with 8.5% annual population growth rate which is one of the highest in the northern Emirates.
